We decide that Day 5 is our final day, for a few reasons.
The weather, for July, has been miserable. This is a big factor when car camping, specifically stealth/wild car camping, as you don't want to get wet through, as it'd be possible to get dried out. We've had a few downpours over the past few days, and we've mainly sought shelter in a pub!
This leads to the second reason, we've spent way over our initial budget. More than £100 per day! In fact our cheapest day was staying on the campsite paying £20 for the night, but saving on an evening meal and beers.
It's a double edged sword in that we love to support the local businesses and communities, but also, need to tighten our belts while away. We found it difficult to fill the hours, particularly early evening until bedtime. You can guess where we were everyday during those hours, with the exception of the last night on the campsite.
Overall though, the route is highly recommended with some stunning and varied scenery around the county of Northumberland. If you plan a more detailed itinerary than us, and settle down later in the evening at your stopover point, then you'd also be able to do it considerably cheaper too!
We head back 20 minutes drive to our starting point via The Sill Information Centre, free entry and a good quality cafe, before a couple of days relaxation before we're back to work.
